about

This is my fourth Christmas release, but the first that is something of a concept album. (Though I guess all Christmas albums are concept albums.)

Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh, the three gifts that the wise men gave Jesus. The three gifts have symbolic elements. The gold represented Jesus' kingship. The frankincense represents Jesus' priesthood. And the myrrh was in anointment & anticipation of his death, an event that was barbaric and changed the history of the world & everyone on it.

This is possibly the most bizarre Christmas release I've done (except for that insane version of "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" on the first one), and often doesn't sound like a Christmas release. Perhaps there is something in that - Christmas isn't necessarily what we think it is. It's all part of the mystery of God's unfolding grace.

Merry Christmas. This is for you.
